Since the foundation of Trinity College inthe Old Library has been used by the Fellows of the college. Undergraduates, such as John Henry (later Cardinal) Newman, have occasionally been admitted, but the library for junior members, when it has existed, has been housed separately.
Trinity’s Old, or Fellows’, Library, dates to the early 15th century. It houses the college’s antiquarian book collection which includes classics, theology and topology, with some science and medicine. The Danson Library adjoins the Old Library and primarily contains the book collection of the Danson family, bequeathed to the college in gave a large consignment of books and manuscripts, which he had been collecting for his new foundation, and the Library has been a vital and continuous resource for the College ever since.
